Things I will do in my classroom to ensure active learning and class participation!

  • Every morning a student will be in charge of presenting the class with a quote of a day! (Possibly extra credit). This will give students a role for them to fill and teach them responsibility. They will also have to discuss why they chose this quote and how it refers to them.

  • Students will be in charge of decorating bulletin boards throughout the year. They will be placed into creative groups and be given a theme. Every month I will take a picture and throughout the year I will hold contests for the best bulletin board!

  • I will set up a bulletin board for students to use as a reference board. As students take notes in class they will have the opportunity to place it on the board for other students to use. This will help students study for tests and learn how to take good notes; the catch is that they cannot use someone else’s notes unless they have taken notes of their own. This will also set a goal for students to take good notes in class.

  • Throughout the year I will have students take turns taking video footage of our lessons. I will take the footage to show the class so they can see how they are learning and what things they can think of to help them to learn more. This will also be used to make a class video for the end of the year!

  • I want students to participate in the rule making for the class. At the beginning of the year we will chart what rule we think our class should have. I will then turn it into a poster and have all the students sign it. Then I will make them their own copy to keep in their notebook to refer to.

  • The students will have daily journal time. During this time they will reflect on what they have learned that day. What did they like and dislike. What do they need to improve on or get extra help on. This will allow me to see where my students are academically and show me how I need to teach my lessons. This will also be a way to incorporate more writing practice!
